So you want to contribute to the web site? Great! Here are a few things you'll need to know to get started.
We'd really like you to add to the pages and create your own. To do that, you'll need to register and log in. Click the login link in the upper right, next to the search form. There you'll see a page to log in, and a link to register right beneath that. Once you're logged in, you can edit pages and create new ones. You can upload photos, comment on other people's work, and make GreenDIY.ie something you can be proud of.
Now that you can log in, you need to know a little bit about editing pages and creating new ones. GreenDIY is a wiki, which is a special kind of website specifically designed to let people edit and create content. For the most part, when you edit a page, whatever you type will appear on the web site. There are some formatting tricks that will help you edit pages and make them look fantastic.
When you click on the “edit page” button in the top left, you get a screen that shows a text field that contains the contents of the page. Often there will be some markup on the page that is used for formatting. The easiest way to use the site to do formatting is to use the bar or icons along the top to help you out. For example,
Bold Text is created by either typing
** Bold Text Here **
or by clicking the big B button on the top bar.
To create a new page, or link to another page, just create a link to it. For example, to make a link to projects/kitchen/plumbing, you would create a link to it like [ [ projects:kitchen:plumbing | plumbing ] ]. The first part is the place you want to go, and the second part is the text everyone sees, like this:
plumbing. If you link to a page that doesn't exist yet, it will let you create an entirely new one with no problems. Be careful, though; sometimes wikis get a little bloated with people linking willy-nilly to pages that don't really have any content, or creating essentially duplicate pages like 'tile' and 'tiles.'
Check out the
syntax page for an example of how to do some really cool things with the wiki.
